This project in Clapham involved a complete refurbishment of a large house, including the addition of a new basement. The client had lived in the property for a few years but wanted a space that truly reflected their style. They envisioned a blend of traditional and contemporary aesthetics for the main house, while the basement and extension would have a more modern look, with clean lines and iconic design pieces. With a receptive client and an engaged contractor, BTL Property, the project took shape to achieve this unique vision.

Akarui tailored the lighting scheme to enhance both architectural features, such as skylights and doorways, and decorative elements like curtains and the fireplace. Our goal was to integrate lighting seamlessly into the design, using concealed LED strips, plaster-in downlights, low-level lights, and discreet channels to highlight key areas without disrupting the overall aesthetic.

The lighting scheme was designed to switch between general lighting and a lower, more atmospheric setting, reminiscent of a private members’ club. High and low-level lighting, combined with dramatic accents such as plinth lighting, created a sophisticated ambiance. Thanks to the Rako lighting control system provided by the AV team, we were able to set customizable lighting scenes, ensuring the client enjoys optimal lighting at any time.
